Nine-year-old BC Artist wins National Contest to Design MedicAlert Bracelet
Toronto, February 10, 2006 – The Canadian MedicAlert Foundation announced the winner of a national contest that saw children between the ages of 4 to 12 years old compete to design a new MedicAlert bracelet as part of its “Sport & Kids” line.
Nine-year-old Brody Mansell from Mission, British Columbia won the competition that included submissions from children from all across Canada. “Brody’s design was bright, creative and unique, and appeals to both boys and girls.” said Stephen Reid, Director of Marketing and Communications for the Foundation. “The contest was a fun and creative way to introduce kids to the benefits of MedicAlert and reintroduce parents to the importance of ensuring medical information is communicated accurately and timely when they aren’t around.”
Brody’s grand prize will be to see his design produced as a new MedicAlert product and launched in 2006. He will also see his design featured on the Foundation’s Web site and in its member newsletter.
“With the rise in childhood asthma, diabetes and allergies, the importance of identifying a child’s medical condition is important for happy, healthy and safe living,” says Reid. “In case of a medical emergency, children can be the most vulnerable because they are often too young, too afraid or too hurt to express themselves. That’s why parents often feel better knowing that MedicAlert can speak for their child when they can’t.”
