National Charity Partners with Halifax-based Travel Agency to Protect Canadians
Toronto, March 2, 2006 – The Canadian MedicAlert Foundation announced today that it has partnered with the Halifax-based Maritime Travel, as its preferred travel partner for its over one million members.
“We know that Maritime Travel can assist our members with their traveling needs such as finding hotels with refrigerators so diabetics can store their insulin, or identifying which planes will remove peanuts and peanut based products for those passengers with severe allergies,“ said Stephen Reid, Director of Marketing and Communications. “We are confident our members will feel comfortable with the level of service they will receive when traveling with a condition that may need special arrangements.”
The biggest threat to health while traveling is not an exotic-borne ailment but the flare-up of an existing medical condition. Whether you are visiting within Canada or the States, or leaving for an exotic holiday, you should take all the necessary precautions to protect your health.
“Because we have members with a wide range of medical conditions, allergies and special needs, it should not stop them from living their lives,’ says Reid. ‘We want our members to enjoy life and traveling with friends and family members can be a great experience.”
Reid indicated the partnership is part of MedicAlert’s overall strategy of providing additional value to its members. “We are excited about having a travel agency that is dedicated to providing superior customer service and consultation as the agency we recommend to our members,” said Reid.
“We are proud to be affiliated with MedicAlert,” said Rob Dexter, Chairman and CEO of Maritime Travel. “Their commitment to protect those living with medical conditions while traveling or at home is in line with our aim of providing a personal touch through a strong sense of professionalism and a ‘down-home feel.”
MedicAlert is Canada’s largest member-based, charitable organization, dedicated to providing services that protect and save lives. As a trusted healthcare partner, members rely on MedicAlert to provide critical medical information to emergency responders, physicians or other medical professionals 24 hours a day.
For more than forty years, over one million Canadians have chosen MedicAlert to provide them with protection and peace of mind in case of a medical emergency. Whenever you see the MedicAlert emblem, you can count on MedicAlert to help emergency medical personnel to respond with appropriate and timely treatment.
The services provided by MedicAlert are also recognized by the Canadian healthcare community. Canadian MedicAlert Foundation is endorsed by CAEP (Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians) and NENA (National Emergency Nurses Affiliation), and works in partnership with a Canada-wide network of health organizations, hospitals, pharmacies, doctors’ offices, medical clinics, and public health centres.
