Major Budget Funding for MedicAlert's No Child Without program
London, ON, March 19, 2008 – Today Prime Minister Stephen Harper joined Canadian MedicAlert Foundation President Dr. Martin Kabat, school delegates, parents and students at Cleardale Public School in London, Ontario to announce $5 million in funding for No Child Without.
The federal government is making a significant difference for a large number of children with chronic or potentially serious medical conditions by supporting the No Child Without program. No Child Without provides free MedicAlert protection for elementary-school children who suffer from potentially life-threatening allergies or medical conditions, and provides every child with a bracelet and membership that is designed to make critical information available in a medical emergency.
The No Child Without program was launched nationally in November 2006. This announcement is an important step toward offering the program to all of Canada's 12,000 elementary schools within five years, benefiting more than 300,000 children.
