MedicAlert Connect Protect continuing to grow across Canada

Quick access to a MedicAlert profile helps first responders provide care and bring loved ones home

When every second counts, MedicAlert Connect Protect saves lives. This vital service gives emergency responders 24/7 direct access through their dispatcher to a MedicAlert subscriber’s electronic profile —so loved ones can be reunited quickly or precise medical attention can be provided.

Across Canada, 34 police services have now partnered with MedicAlert’s Connect Protect, the latest being the Ontario Provincial Police, which launched the service in June. Police are able to quickly and easily access a MedicAlert subscriber’s profile through a secure database using the unique identification number engraved on a MedicAlert ID.

MedicAlert Connect Protect is especially useful for anyone who may wander, such as those who live with Alzheimer’s, dementia or autism, and it can also be helpful in situations involving those who live with a brain injury, fetal alcohol syndrome or mental health issues.

The MedicAlert profile includes the subscriber’s identity, photo, physical descriptions, wandering history, medical conditions, behaviour management strategies (such as anxiety triggers) and de-escalation techniques, as well as caregiver information. These details allow police to bring MedicAlert subscribers home more quickly, and can help officers provide compassionate care based on an individual’s needs. Whether someone has wandered or is experiencing an emergency, MedicAlert Connect Protect can make a world of difference.

If you know someone who will benefit from MedicAlert and lives in a region where MedicAlert Connect Protect service has been established, please recommend them to sign up today.

At MedicAlert, our goal is simple: to introduce this critical service across Canada. If MedicAlert Connect Protect is not yet in your community, please ask your local police to contact us at connectprotect@medicalert.ca.
