We can take away the worry of wandering
As a care partner to someone living with dementia, we know your most significant worry is not knowing if they’ll wander or when it will happen. The loss of memory from dementia can impact your loved one’s ability to recognize where they are and can make it difficult for them to find their way home, or even communicate in a critical situation. That’s where MedicAlert’s Safe & Found Program comes in.

MedicAlert is there to speak for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia when they can’t.
MedicAlert has managed Canada’s National Wandering Registry for more than a decade. Our experience and expertise in data collection related to wandering is unparalleled in the world. In fact, our research shows us that when MedicAlert is engaged in a wandering incident, people are returned home safe and unharmed 91% of the time!
If someone with dementia loses their way, a MedicAlert’s Safe & Found Alzheimer’s / dementia ID backed by a comprehensive health record with specifics not only on their condition, but also additional helpful details vital for search and rescue teams, can help ensure your loved one is found quickly and returned home safely. We work with and train first responders to understand the signs of dementia. We also have a unique blue ID that is a visual cue to first responders that a person may be living with a memory impairment. Not only do we teach first responders to identify and read our IDs, we also train them to access our database if they are members of our Connect Protect Program or to call our 24/7 Emergency Hotline for more information – including de-escalation techniques, previous wandering history, potential triggers, etc., which can make all the difference during a wandering incident.
Just ask Tracy
“At that point I hadn’t slept at all. The police had been out looking for hours. We had been searching. Things were getting closer to the time where… well, you just don’t want to think about what could have happened. I already give MedicAlert a 10 out of 10 for being the service that helped us find my mom. I am grateful that we had the means to support my mother. I can’t imagine what it is like for other families who don’t have the resources we do. But the best investment we made was the least expensive, and that was MedicAlert.” - Tracy recalls when her mother, Jean, got lost.
Three out of five people living with dementia will go missing at some point in the disease. If they’re not found within 24 hours, 50% experience serious injury or even death.
MedicAlert’s Safe & Found blue ID is specially made to be recognized by first responders, medical professionals, and Good Samaritans. It helps to ensure that your loved one is returned during an emergency or wandering incident.
