Primary Objectives:
The Health Policy Research Analyst will play a key role in supporting MedicAlert’s Public Affairs and Programs and Research Teams, in advancing policy and research objectives related to health and public safety.
The analyst will focus on identifying opportunities for improved safety, inclusion,and protection of individuals with chronic health conditions, cognitive impairments, and special medical needs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Key responsbilities include:
- Conducting a comprehensive jurisdictional scan across all Canadian provinces and territories to identify and summarize policies, legislation, and frameworks addressing dementia, wandering, autism, asthma, allergies and other chronic conditions, with a focus on older adults (dementia/wandering) and children (chronic conditions and special needs).
- Completing literature reviews on medical alert systems, patient safety and emergency response outcomes.
- Conducting an environmental scan of emerging health technologies and trends (specifically dementia safety solutions).
- Reviewing and analyzing existing national and provincial programs related to emergency response (specifically with respect to first responders), missing persons with dementia, and community-based safety initiatives.
- Identifying best practices and policy gaps where MedicAlert’s programs can add value or align with public safety and health objectives.
- Preparing written reports, issue summaries, and evidence-based briefs that position MedicAlert as a key partner in supporting vulnerable populations.
- Drafting background research to support submissions to government consultations, grant applications, and stakeholder communications.
- Collaborating with internal departments to translate research findings into public awareness, advocacy, and educational initiatives.
- Assisting in developing data visuals or infographics that communicate key findings and recommendations clearly and accessibly.
- Working with the Manager, Education and Knowledge Translation to look for opportunities to develop educational materials (e-learning or other) to highlight findings.
- Presenting ongoing updates to the Vice-President, Public Affairs and Programs, and participate in feedback discussions to refine deliverables.
- Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed
