Connect Protect

Our Connect Protect Program is a multifaceted partnership with police and fire first responders.
At the heart of the Program is a unique support service for Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) better known as 9-1-1 dispatch centres. Connect Protect allows 9-1-1 dispatchers to access a MedicAlert subscriber's personal health record directly from our Subscriber Health Information Database (SHID). The information is displayed specifically for use in first response triage, and frees frontline officers and other first responders to take action more quickly.
For example, nearly 40% of MedicAlert's 24/7 Hotline calls are for people who wander and go missing or need deescalation support. When First Responders have direct access to information such as previous wandering history, health conditions, even triggers and de-escalation techniques unique to an individual, the information becomes critical to safeguarding loved ones with Alzheimer’s or autism, and for those living with a medical condition that could require immediate and focused attention in an emergency. Like no other service, it can quickly reunite loved ones, or get someone the precise medical attention they need.
Connect Protect also focus on first responder training specifically related to how use the MedicAlert SHID, recognize condition-specific IDs, and what to do if they encounter a person with specific or unique needs.
We also work with the first response community to develop tools that help to support their work in keeping people safe.
Connect Protect is available in a growing number of communities across Canada. See if your Police or Fire Service is part of Connect Protect.
