MedicAlert Connect Protect service will help West Vancouver Police provide new protections for people with cognitive challenges

MedicAlert Connect Protect

West Vancouver Police have joined forces with MedicAlert Foundation Canada to bring MedicAlert Connect Protect to the West Vancouver community. West Vancouver Police are the 10 th Canadian Police agency to partner with MedicAlert and the 3 rd in British Columbia. MedicAlert Connect Protect gives police officers 24/7 access to a registered subscriber’s photo, identity, past wandering history, and other vital emergency information through their MedicAlert medical IDs. The service helps reconnect people living with Alzheimer’s, dementia, autism or cognitive brain injuries with family and caregivers in emergency circumstances.

This information will help officers search more efficiently, increasing the chances that those who go missing are more quickly reunited with loved ones. Officers called to an emergency involving a MedicAlert subscriber will also have access to vital information which may be necessary to save a life.

Important New Partnership

“West Vancouver Police are proud to join MedicAlert Connect Protect ,” says West Vancouver Police Chief Constable Len Goerke. “Being able to help people when needed is vitally important to us. MedicAlert Connect Protect provides a valuable new tool to return people living with cognitive challenges to safety as quickly as possible. Helping first responders more quickly recognize and understand behaviour can help increase safety of interactions with people living with autism, dementia, brain injuries and other cognitive challenges.”

“It’s critical that we’re able to find and recognize wandering or unidentified people as quickly and efficiently as possible, both to protect our subscribers and also to save police resources,” explains Robert Ridge, President and CEO of MedicAlert. “In an emergency situation, West Vancouver Police will have access to vital information that will save valuable time and unnecessary worry from family members and caregivers.”
