SuperSquad Colouring Contest
The MedicAlert SuperSquad is calling all young heroes to unleash their creativity in an epic colouring contest! Join the fun by downloading a few of your favourite SuperSquad characters' colouring sheets and bring them to life with your superpowers—aka your crayons! Once you're done, pick your best masterpiece and submit it for a chance to win one of three heroic prizes, judged by our very own panel of SuperSquad experts. Our Grand Prize winner will win a free one-year MedicAlert Kids subscription, while our two runners up will each receive a free MedicAlert Kids ID from a special pool of select options. So, capes on, crayons out—let’s see your super skills in action!
How to Enter the Colouring Contest*:
The contest is open to persons ages 3 – 12 who reside in Canada, excluding Quebec.
The contest runs from 10am October 19 – 6pm November 1, 2024. All entries must be received by 6pm on November 1.
Entries can be emailed to us at communications@medicalert.ca; handed in to our booth at the Ottawa Parent and Child Expo (Nepean Sportsplex, 1701 Woodroffe Avenue. Each SuperSquad member faces their own health challenges, but they teach kids to tap into their own unique superpowers by wearing a MedicAlert Kids ID, self-advocating for their health and promoting inclusion and education.
Zoologist Zoey

Bio: Meet Zoologist Zoey, this Caucasian 12-year-old is the heart of the MedicAlert Super Squad. Zoey has an extraordinary ability to communicate with animals and understand the feelings of others. Diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, Zoey transforms her challenges into a remarkable superpower, highlighting empathy and understanding that extends beyond humans to the animal kingdom.
Zoey's superpower isn’t just about her unique ability to connect with animals; it's about understanding the emotions and needs of all living creatures, making her an exceptional friend and ally. This ability also helps Zoey manage her anxiety, as she finds great comfort and peace in her interactions with animals.
Sporting a "Sporty Zoo" sportsband, Zoologist Zoey wears it as a protective shield, a critical safety tool that carries her medical information to ensure she receives the right support when needed. Zoey openly shares her experiences with anxiety, helping to destigmatize mental health issues and advocating for understanding and kindness, teaching others that it's okay to feel anxious and that everyone has their inner struggles.
As part of the MedicAlert Super Squad, Zoologist Zoey's stories are often filled with fascinating animal facts and heartwarming interactions with wildlife to inspire children to embrace their uniqueness and to understand and respect the differences in others. Her message is clear: with empathy, understanding, and a little help from our friends (human or animal), we can overcome any obstacle, together.
Outdoor Otto

Health Condition: Severe Asthma
Superpower: Puffer
Sportsband: Sporty Green Camo
Bio: Meet Outdoor Otto, a vibrant 9-year-old member of the MedicAlert Super Squad, with a passion for the great outdoors and a mission to educate others about living adventurously yet safely with asthma. Of Indigenous heritage, Otto proudly embraces his cultural roots, often incorporating traditional outdoor skills and stories into his adventures.
Otto was diagnosed with severe asthma at a young age, but he never let it dampen his spirit. Instead, he became a superhero in his own right, turning his challenge into a superpower. With his trusty puffer, Otto can manage his asthma effectively, ensuring that he continues to forage for mushrooms (his favourite activity and food), go camping, and play hide and seek in nature. His puffer isn't just a medical device; it's his magic wand that keeps him active and safe.
Adorned with a sporty green camo sportsband, Otto is easily recognizable on the hiking trails. His MedicAlert ID is a symbol of his resilience and readiness. It carries his medical information, ensuring that help is always at hand should he need it.
As a part of the MedicAlert Super Squad, Otto's message to other kids is clear: having a chronic health condition like asthma doesn't mean you can't enjoy life. It's all about understanding your limits, being prepared, and respecting your body. He loves to share tips on how to keep asthma in check while playing sports, camping, or just spending time outdoors.
Racing Rita

Health Condition: Cerebral Palsy
Superpower: Wheelchair

Bio: Meet Racing Rita, the spirited and unstoppable 6-year-old member of the MedicAlert Super Squad. With her unbreakable spirit and infectious enthusiasm, Rita is redefining what it means to be a superhero. As an African-Canadian girl living with cerebral palsy, she navigates the world from her wheelchair – but in Rita's eyes, her wheelchair is far more than just a mobility aid; it's her superpower, her trusted steed, a symbol of speed, agility, and freedom.
Despite her young age, Rita has already become a champion for inclusivity. She’s passionate about showing the world that physical limitations do not define ability or aspiration. Rita's message is clear: challenges can be transformed into strengths with the right attitude and support.
Never without her sporty pink camo sportsband, Rita may have cerebral palsy, but she doesn't let it define her. She is known for her love of speed, whether she’s racing down the school hallways, participating in wheelchair sports, or just playing with her friends. Her daring spirit makes her an inspiration to everyone who meets her.
As a key member of the MedicAlert Super Squad, Rita's mission is to educate others about cerebral palsy and to advocate for accessible environments for all children. She's a living testament to the idea that every obstacle can be turned into an opportunity for growth and learning.
Engineering Ethan

Health Condition: Brain Tumor
Superpower: Positivity and Resilience by Design

Bio: Engineering Ethan, a 10-year-old real-life superhero, tackles life's challenges with unwavering positivity and resilience – and that’s by design! Despite his battle with a brain tumor, Ethan's optimism shines as a beacon of hope in the MedicAlert SuperSquad. Whether he’s engineering an epic model of the Orient Express built entirely out of LEGO bricks or creating a gourmet breakfast for his family. Right down to the precision of cracking the eggs for a homemade omelet or crafting the perfect spicy tuna roll, Ethan’s all about the combination of art and science.... right down to his trademark bow tie!
Ethan navigates school life with remarkable adaptability and shows great maturity as he manages his energy and needs during his four-hour school day. His Sporty Black MedicAlert ID is essential, carrying vital information about his health condition to ensure his safety.
Beyond his personal passions, Ethan is a champion for causes close to his heart, raising funds for charities with his innovative creations, including bath bomb kits and homemade fire starters.
Engineering Ethan's motto, "No matter how hard things get, you will always power through," embodies his courageous approach to life. With support from his family and school, Ethan inspires others with his bright outlook, creativity, and dedication to making a positive impact.
Soccer Sihan

Superpower: EpiPen, knows exactly what to do if an allergic reaction occurs, empowers others to speak up.

Bio: Meet Soccer Sihan, the sport 8-year-old member of the MedicAlert Super Squad with a passion for soccer and a mission to empower others. Of Asian ethnicity, Sihan combines her love for sports with her commitment to raising awareness about peanut allergies, a condition she manages with courage and knowledge.
Soccer Sihan's superpower lies in her EpiPen, a life-saving tool she carries with her on and off the field. She possesses an exceptional understanding of what to do during an allergic reaction, making her not just a player on the soccer field, but also a champion of safety who’s ready to fly into action in face of an emergency.
Sihan’s Sporty Soccer sportsband is more than just sports attire; it's a vital part of her safety kit. The sportsband carries her medical information, ensuring that she gets the right assistance whenever it's needed, without hindering her ability to enjoy the game she loves.
Despite her young age, Sihan is a powerful advocate for allergy awareness. She educates her friends, teammates, and coaches about the seriousness of food allergies and the importance of speaking up. Her message is clear: having a food allergy doesn't mean you have to sit on the sidelines. It's about being prepared, aware, and depending on your “team” for support.
As a member of the MedicAlert Super Squad, Soccer Sihan embodies the spirit of teamwork, both on and off the field, inspiring everyone to play their part in making the world a friendlier and safer place for those with allergies.

Superpower: Inclusivity, learned to read at a very early age (hyperlexia), memorizing and learning information quickly, thinking and learning in a visual way.
Sportsband: Autism Collection – Sporty Pink/Purple
Bio: Meet Inclusive Ian, an 11-year-old Indo-Caribbean with a gender-neutral identity. Living with autism, Ian turns their unique perspective into a powerful superpower, championing inclusivity and understanding.
Inclusive Ian's superpowers are as diverse and remarkable as they are. They have hyperlexia, an extraordinary ability to read at an early age. Ian can absorb and memorize information at lightning speed. Ian's brain works in a visually oriented and highly creative way, allowing them to see the world through a unique and insightful lens. Cognitive diversity is Ian's strength, helping them to solve problems and think and see outside the box.
Sporting a sporty pink and purple sportsband from the MedicAlert Autism Collection, Ian wears it proudly. This band isn't just a fashion statement; it's a symbol of their identity and an important medical tool that contains personal information about their neurodiversity.
As part of the MedicAlert Super Squad, Inclusive Ian uses their unique experience to educate others about autism, dispelling myths and fostering a deeper understanding and acceptance of diverse ways of thinking and learning, especially in educational and social settings.
Inclusive Ian is more than a superhero; they are a powerful reminder that everyone, regardless of neurotype, ethnicity, or gender identity, deserves to be understood, respected, and celebrated for who they are.
