The Conversation

Ageing in place is often framed as a preference — but in reality, it must be intentionally enabled.

In this session, three critical perspectives come together:

  • Clinical reality: What older adults and caregivers are navigating day-to-day, and where risks emerge
  • Financial confidence: How Canadians are planning, adapting, and using tools to support independence
  • Connected safety: How access to critical health information ensures better outcomes when something goes wrong

Practical technologies — including remote monitoring, smart home tools, and communication supports — are part of the solution.

But technology alone is not enough.

Ageing in the right place depends on a broader system of support that connects individuals, caregivers, and responders with the right information at the right time.

This session will explore what that looks like in practice — and what it means for Canadians today.

Why Join

Most older Canadians want to remain in their own homes for as long as possible.
But doing so successfully requires more than good intentions.

It requires the right mix of support:

Technology
Technology that promotes safety and independence
Risk
Systems that reduce the risks of at-home emergencies
Connected
Tools that help people stay confident, connected, and in control

For older adults, caregivers, and families, the question is no longer if ageing in place is possible — but how to do it well.
