Federal funding awarded to advance key dementia initiatives

MedicAlert Foundation Canada is a partner in one of four key initiatives the federal government has granted $2.1M to enhance search and rescue capabilities for people living with dementia. Entitled Managing Risks of Going Missing among Persons Living with Dementia by Building Capacities of SAR (search and rescue) Personnel, First Responders, and Communities, one of the initiatives focuses on exploring the prevalence of persons living with dementia who go missing and the characteristics of missing incidents.

MedicAlert’s Subscriber Health Information Database is a valuable source of data that will help researchers to better understand wandering from a Canadian context. This has the potential to inform services, supports, and policies that reflect the unique needs of Canadians living with dementia.
