How do I join MedicAlert Foundation Canada?

First, choose your Medical ID and membership service plan. When you checkout, your membership will be activated and you'll fill out your medical information. You can also join by calling 1-800-668-1507 or mailing us this PDF membership form.

How much does MedicAlert cost?

MedicAlert medical IDs start at $39 plus the cost of the Membership Service and registration Fee.Membership is only $5 per month and you can save even more money when go a 24 or 36 month plan. Registration Fee is $24 and includes a MedicAlert medically trained specialist setting and reviewing your medical profile and ensuring your ID is engraved using standard medical language preferred by Emergency Responders and Health Care Professionals.

Can I get help paying for MedicAlert?

Canadians of all ages with health conditions can apply for Membership Assistance. The Membership Assistance program is generously funded by donations from our wonderful members, and provides full or partial coverage for the membership service and MedicAlert medical ID. Applications are individually reviewed, and MedicAlert reserves the right to verify the information provided. Membership Assistance memberships are subject to an annual eligibility review.

Does it cost anything to update my profile?

No. Your membership service plan includes unlimited updates, except for Lifetime Membership plans. For Lifetime membership plans, demographic updates are free, but medical updates are $15 each time. If a Lifetime member orders a new MedicAlert medical ID, the $15 fee is waived. Additionally, MedicAlert has medically trained staff to ensure completeness of your medical profile and they review your profile each time you get a new custom engraved ID.

Can I get medical ID without activating a membership?

No. A medical bracelet isn't enough to keep safe. Although it has space to describe your basic medical needs, getting complete details on your health can make the difference in a life-threatening situation. That's why MedicAlert memberships include a detailed health record that paramedics can access 24/7. Your membership also allows MedicAlert to notify your loved ones, so that you don't have to be alone during your emergency.

What can I engrave on my MedicAlert ID bracelet?

There's room for several lines of engraving on both small and large emblems. We always engrave your unique identification number, most critical conditions or special needs, and the phone number of the 24/7 MedicAlert hotline for paramedics, police, and other emergency responders. Our team of medical specialists will review your medical information and determine what should be engraved, ensuring that your MedicAlert ID uses standard medical terminology for the best treatment outcome. Any additional information will be included on your wallet card and in your complete medical record.

How long does it take to receive my MedicAlert ID bracelet?

Stainless steel MedicAlert products usually ship within 2-3 weeks.
More popular MedicAlert product choices may require an additional 2-3 weeks to ship.
Silver and gold MedicAlert products usually ship within 3-4 weeks.

Where do I send my broken or wrong-sized ID bracelet?

Mail it to us, and we'll contact you with more information about ID bracelet or ID jewellery once we assess how it needs to be fixed or resized.

What if I lost or found a MedicAlert medical ID?

Please call 1-800-668-1507, so we can help ensure all of our MedicAlert members are protected 24/7.

What ID bracelet or jewelry is best for a baby or toddler?

We recommend the MedicAlert stainless steel ID bracelet with the small emblem. It's lightweight, easy to clean, and difficult to remove! As your baby grows, you can get a new chain or transfer the emblem to a kid-sized band.

Member questions

What if my information changes?

Log in to My MedicAlert to update your medical record, or call us at 1-800-668-1507 or make changes in the MedicAlert app. MedicAlert has medical trained staff to ensure completeness of your medical profile. You should update your record whenever you change medication, your health changes, or your contact information (including email, phone number, and mailing address) changes. Even if there are no changes, we recommend you review your profile at least once a year to ensure the information is still correct and relevant. If you think you may need an updated engraving, Log in to My MedicAlert, make changes in the MedicAlert app or contact us.

How do I know when to renew my membership service?

If you signed up under the monthly membership, your membership won't expire. The fee will be automatically charged to your credit card every month.
However, if you subscribed to a membership service plan with a specific length, we'll send you a reminder by email or mail 45 days before it's due to expire. Your membership expiry date is also printed on your wallet card and displayed in My MedicAlert.
To ensure you continue to enjoy protection from your MedicAlert membership service plan, we recommend you renew at least 15 days before your membership expires. You can renew online or contact us to renew.

Can I cancel?

Yes. Call Member Services at 1-855-227-8644. You’ll be asked to submit a written cancellation request via email or mail within five days, indicating you're canceling your membership and agreeing to no longer wear any MedicAlert ID. When your membership is canceled your MedicAlert record will be permanently removed from our system and we will not be able to provide any information to paramedics and emergency responders. You will continue be reminded to renew your membership service plan unless you cancel. Please click here for your Full Member Statement.
